TikTok: A Key Player in Trump’s Power Game with China
The Former President Turns a Ban into a Business Opportunity
Former President Trump has shifted his focus on TikTok from national security concerns to a high-stakes business deal. He suggested turning the US ban on TikTok into a financial win, proposing a sale or partnership involving American companies like Elon Musk’s or Larry Ellison’s.
Trump hinted at a joint venture that could give the US significant control over TikTok, but any deal requires approval from ByteDance (TikTok’s Chinese owner) and the Chinese government. He even suggested TikTok is "worthless" without US approval and proposed the US receive a cut of the sale.
This move ties TikTok’s future to broader US-China negotiations, including trade and technology disputes. Trump also defended TikTok, citing its popularity and economic benefits in the US, and highlighted his own popularity on the platform as a reason to keep it alive.
Despite legal uncertainty, TikTok remains a pawn in this geopolitical chess game, with more twists likely ahead.

Questions Raised About Funding for Stargate Initiative
Elon Musk has cast doubt on a new $500 billion AI project, Stargate, announced by former President Trump. Musk claimed the backers, including SoftBank, Oracle, and OpenAI, lack the necessary funds, stating SoftBank has secured less than $10 billion.
Stargate aims to boost AI infrastructure in the US, starting with $100 billion from the companies involved and plans to scale up over time. Musk’s criticism is notable as he has close ties to Trump but is also in legal disputes with OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, over its business practices.
Altman and other backers dismissed Musk’s claims, stating their companies have sufficient resources to fund the initiative. Despite Musk’s skepticism, proponents argue Stargate is crucial for advancing America’s AI leadership.
