MSNBC Cancels Joy Reid’s Show Amid Major Primetime Shakeup
MSNBC is canceling The ReidOut, Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. ET show, as part of a broader programming revamp under new network president Rebecca Kutler. The slot will be filled by The Weekend co-hosts Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, following the show’s success in boosting weekend ratings. Meanwhile, Jen Psaki, whose show is MSNBC’s top-rated weekend program, is expected to take a primetime slot, possibly replacing Alex Wagner at 9 p.m. ET after Rachel Maddow scales back her schedule. Kutler, formerly of CNN, is also looking to recruit new talent like Politico’s Eugene Daniels and NYU law professor Melissa Murray as she navigates MSNBC’s transition after its corporate spinoff from Comcast. With MSNBC’s viewership surging since Trump’s return to office, the network is doubling down on progressive programming while preparing for industry changes.
SEC Drops Coinbase Lawsuit, Signaling Lighter Crypto Regulation Under Trump
The SEC is set to drop its lawsuit against Coinbase, marking a major win for the crypto industry in the U.S. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, accused Coinbase of operating as an unregistered broker, but the regulator will now dismiss the case without penalties. This move aligns with President Trump’s pro-crypto stance, as his administration pushes for deregulation. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong praised the decision, arguing that complying with SEC demands could have crippled the industry. Meanwhile, on the same day, Bybit reported a massive $1.4 billion hack of its ether cold wallet, highlighting ongoing security risks in the crypto space.
Apple Bets Big on the iPhone 16e—Will It Win Over Budget Buyers?
Apple’s new iPhone 16e, launching at $599, marks a shift from the "SE" branding and aims to attract budget-conscious consumers while expanding Apple’s reach. Despite its higher-than-expected price, the 16e follows a proven formula seen in the successful iPhone XR—offering a large 6.1-inch display, strong battery life, and high performance while cutting costs on camera hardware. Analysts believe this approach could boost sales beyond the underperforming iPhone SE, though concerns remain about its impact on iPhone 16 sales and competition with cheaper Android alternatives. More than just a budget phone, the iPhone 16e plays a crucial role in Apple’s strategy to grow its AI-driven services, ensuring more users access Apple Intelligence. As rivals like Google and Samsung push AI innovations, Apple needs the iPhone 16e to succeed in maintaining its competitive edge.
